My weaving is in traditional Lanna style, the Lanna kingdom existed for many hundreds of years in what is now northern Thailand with Chiang Mai as its capital. My ancestors would weave in cotton but nowadays we do this in silk. My village is quite remote and this has been a traditional way of life for many generations. Nowadays, I sell much of what I weave through OTOP, this is a program that supports locally made handicrafts and helps spread income to the villages, this allows the villages to maintain a community and a traditional way of life. Of course it's normal for young people, like my daughter, to want to leave the village to pursue her education, and once again this income helps to provide for that. The weavings that you see being made are the same patterns that were being made several centuries ago and I hope you are able to enjoy watching this ancient craft.
