How a Helical Limited Slip Differential Works: The Magic of Helical Gears

Wonder how performance cars manage to put all the power down to both wheels without slipping? I'll be stripping down a 6 speed manual transmission from a Nissan Sentra SER Spec-V to learn the engineering and manufacturing behind a Helical Limited Slip differential (LSD) and explain what's inside and how it works! Open differentials tend to leave one wheel peels as power is sent to the one wheel that has the least amount of traction. Meanwhile, a clutch type LSD has wear points. A Helical LSD is based on gear geometry and is often called a Torsen or Quaife style differential. The worm gears use friction under load to press up against the differential casing to resist wheel speed difference between left and right wheels.
