We wish our phones weren't ringing day and night with another animal who has been left to suffer. We wish people would spay and neuter so innocent cats like Roy never had to be born onto the streets, where pain and neglect become their norm. Most of all, we wish we didn't have to keep writing stories like this. A compassionate Good Samaritan found this beautiful Russian Blue wandering the streets, barely able to find his way. One look at his face made it obvious that something was terribly wrong. His eyes were so swollen, infected, and caked with thick discharge that they had sealed completely shut. We don't know how long he wandered through the world in darkness, unable to see where he was going or who might help him. We don't know whether his vision can be saved. We only know that no cat should ever have to endure this kind of suffering alone. Imagine trying to find food when you can't see it. Imagine trying to escape danger when your eyes won't even open. Every day Roy survived was another day he endured fear, pain, and uncertainty with no one looking out for him. Yet somehow, despite everything, he held on until the right person crossed his path. When we were asked if we could help, we couldn't say no. Roy is finally safe, but this is only the beginning. He urgently needs a complete veterinary examination, diagnostics, treatment for the severe infections consuming his eyes, pain medication, and ongoing medical care to determine whether his eyesight can be saved or whether the damage is permanent. Right now, there are far more questions than answers, and every answer comes with another veterinary bill. The truth is, our rescue is exhausted. Kitten season has overwhelmed us. The emergencies never stop, and our veterinary bills continue to grow. But when we looked at Roy's face, we knew walking away wasn't an option. He has suffered for far too long already.
