A cervicogenic headache is a headache that originates in your cervical spine, specifically from the small joints and nerves at the top of your neck. When those structures get irritated or compressed from poor posture, an old injury, or tight muscles, they send pain signals up into your head that show up as headaches. The good news is that because the problem starts in your neck, it can actually be fixed with the right exercises. WHY DO I GET CERVICOGENIC HEADACHES? Cervicogenic headaches happen when the structures in your upper cervical spine get overloaded or compressed and the pain travels upward into your head. Poor posture, prolonged sitting, old neck injuries, and chronically tight muscles are the most common causes. If your headache starts as tightness or pain in your neck and radiates up from there, that's the classic pattern of a cervicogenic headache. BEST EXERCISES FOR CERVICOGENIC HEADACHE PAIN RELIEF The exercises in this video decompress the upper cervical joints, release the muscles pulling on those nerves, and restore the movement patterns that reduce irritation over time. They take about 5 to 6 minutes and you can do them anywhere without equipment. If your headaches start in your neck, you're in the right place, and these exercises are going to help tremendously.
